10 Artists That Hate Their Own Albums
2. Nevermind - Nirvana
There's a case to be made that Nirvana's Nevermind is one of the most important records in the history of rock and roll. Since the hair metal scene of the '80s was starting to wear out its welcome for a while, Kurt Cobain created an entire new subgenre beneath his feet, bringing together alternative kids and casual rock fans under one roof to create what we now know as grunge. And if Kurt had it his way, the record would probably not exist like this at all.
That's not to say that Kurt hates the songs by any stretch. During the recording of the record, most of the band and producer Butch Vig talked about how proud Kurt was of these songs and thinking that he was hitting on something a lot more potent than he did on Bleach. When it came time to mix though, Kurt was horrified by what engineer Andy Wallace had done. He had hired him because of his work with Slayer, but Andy's fine tuned approach turned this record into a masterpiece, and KURT WAS PISSED!
For the next few months of promotion for the record, Kurt grew more and more cynical because of how well the record was taking off, saying it sounded closer to a Motley Crue record than the punk rock approach that he was looking for. Since his fans had switched over to jocks on this album, you can see why Kurt went for something much different on In Utero. When you have that much success that quick, you're going to want to run away from it as fast as possible.
