10 Artists Who Always Had The Best Music Videos
8. Britney Spears
Notable Mentions: ...Baby One More Time, Oops!...I Did It Again, Toxic, Everytime, Piece Of Me
While it's very likely a lot of people reading this list won't be the biggest fan of the 90s teen pop star, you have to respect what a cultural icon Britney Spears was at her height. The star rose to fame while still a teenager, and her music videos pretty much tell a story in themselves, describing the rise and fall of her journey into stardom.
Britney's early efforts '...Baby One More Time', and 'Oops!...I Did It Again' were heavy dance efforts with many cheesy quirks and cliches (high school dropouts and sexy dancers on Mars being the highlights), but the success of both were major factors in the princess of pop reviving the genre for a young generation. The singer then started to decline in the early 2000's, in part down to the pressures of the tabloid media. However, Spears then highlighted her experiences of the paparazzi in 'Everytime' and 'Piece Of Me', relaunching her career in the process.
It was then later efforts such as 'Toxic' and 'Womanizer' that showed off the adult Britney, with more sexual imagery, but which kept her in the spotlight. While many modern artists have replicated that success, she was one of the first to use her physicality as part of her image.
Say what you like about Britney Spears, but she's a cultural staple of her time and that's down to her onscreen efforts.
