10 Artists Who HATE Their Own Albums
3. Pinkerton - Weezer
Pinkerton by Weezer has got to be one of the most emotionally potent albums of the '90s. While that decade wasn't short on more poignant musical affairs, each of these songs feel like the sound of Rivers Cuomo finally achieving rock star status and not enjoying it once he earned his dreams. It may have felt honest back then, but the initial backlash from this record has made Cuomo rethink his entire approach to the music he plays.
Upon first release, this album was heralded as one the biggest fumbles in rock history, but as time went on, it has become one of the defining staples of the genre. However, that first taste of hatred led Cuomo to quickly backtrack on his initial feelings, going so far as to call the record outright hideous.
Though Cuomo's mood has softened in recent years, he still likens Pinkerton to one of the most embarrassing things he has ever released, as if it was responsible for the death of the alt rock movement.
Ever since then, Weezer has remained consistent, but nothing has ever been able to equal the genius of Pinkerton due to Cuomo's hesitation. There's a lot to admire about Weezer's early work, even if Cuomo has made it a point to run away from that sound as quickly as possible.
