10 Artists Who HATE Their Own Albums
2. Nevermind - Nirvana
There's most likely an entire legion of rock fans who can tell you where they were when they first heard Nevermind. Not only did this record launch Nirvana's career, but also signalled an entire rock movement that culminated in the colossal sound of grunge.
The album may be a classic, but it was always a sore subject in Kurt Cobain's mind.
Granted, Cobain always had a bit of a complicated relationship with his own art. For as much as he loved more pop-friendly acts like Cheap Trick and the Beatles, he always envisioned Nirvana as having a punk rock attitude, with little regard for mainstream success. Once the band were launched into the stratosphere though, Cobain pretty much started his own hate train by throwing insults towards the production of Nevermind.
No matter what circumstance you found him in, Cobain found himself incredibly critical about the mixes of the record, which he thought felt more in line what a Motley Crue record than a punk rock album. Cobain may have felt a bit jaded regarding the mix, but this album's sound feels a lot more down to earth than anything Vince Neil and co. would ever hope to make.
Even if Cobain didn't really see the appeal of his own work, Nevermind is still able to inspire any teenager who has ever smelt teen spirit.
