10 Artists Who Totally Ripped Off The Arctic Monkeys
4. Alpes
This French band has taken more than a few musical cues from Arctic Monkeys, with their debut album "Between Moon and Sun" sounding at times like a mash up of "Humbug", "Suck It And See" and "AM" all at once.
Now that's not a bad formula, and ripping off not one but three Arctic Monkeys records at once definitely gives Alpes a (relatively) unique sound.
Like The Crookes before them, however, Alpes are not just straightforward imitators, and take the indie rock groundwork laid out to them in new and exciting directions.
While some songs ("Feel It") are more reminiscent of Superfood than Arctic Monkeys, others ("Another Secret") employ guitar riffs eerily similar to the kind found throughout the Sheffield band's discography.
And while some bands work to developing their own sound as their career progresses, Alpes seems to have leaned into their Arctic Monkeys influence during the production of their second album "Dream Ocean", a newfound vocal confidence on "Facing the Crowd" bearing a more than passing reminiscence to Turner.
