10 Artists Who Totally Ripped Off The Arctic Monkeys

5. You Me At Six

There are more than a few passing similarities between Arctic Monkeys' and You Me At Six's fifth studio records, with identical lyrical themes throughout.

Both "AM" and "Night People" are about the highs and lows of night life, both charting characters' journeys across all the peaks and troughs going out after dark has to offer.

And these similarities aren't just speculative - You Me At Six lead singer Josh Franceschi explicitly pointed to Alex Turner's lyrics as a source of inspiration for the album, with "Can't Hold Back" especially modelled after Turner's storytelling prowess.

You Me At Six even jokingly referred to themselves as Arctic Monkeys during their 2019 Reading set, keeping one step ahead of the detractors by acknowledging, with their tongues firmly in their cheeks, the obvious similarities between the bands' musical styles.

If Arctic Monkeys influenced You Me At Six's fifth record, however, this is a sound the band have since been keen to escape from. While promoting "Night People" follow-up "VI", Franceschi compared "Night People" to Arctic Monkeys' "Humbug", calling it a record they needed to make in order to evolve as a band.
