10 Astounding Albums By Landfill Indie Bands Of The '00s

10. Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger

Maximo Park popped up during the tail-end of that whole whole post-punk revival wave, and truth be told, are sonically fairly similar to much of what was coming out during that time period. It didn't prevent them from releasing this entirely solid little debut album though (and the first of many on this list). It jumps from track to track, throwing away more traditional pop song structure and providing a slightly more technically accomplished backbone that is equally as catchy and certainly more exciting to listen to. The singles are great, such as Apply Some Pressure and Graffiti. The former is especially catchy, with its stabbing guitar riffs and ear-worm vocal hooks, boosted by Paul Smith's endearing accent. The album cuts are equally good, and the album ends with the 1-2 combo of Acrobat and Kiss You Better. Acrobat is the record's longest track; nearly five minutes of droney shoegaze-dirge, followed by Kiss You Better's short burst of new wave pop. All in all, Maximo Park's debut proves how you can wring some fresh ideas out of an old sound through great songwriting.
