Here's a bit of a surprise, Bright Futures' (formerly known as Natalie Portman's Shaved Head) released an entirely comic and surprisingly fun first album. Having been largely written off by many due to its seemingly generic electropop quality and a lack of seriousness, many missed out on what was actually a fairly solid and funky debut. The jokes are stupid, but they're still funny. I mean, the band's name wasn't even topical by the time it was released. And look at that album art, it's so similar to the Advice Animals stream of memes which have reached an annoying level of popularity over the past few years, can we consider that forward thinking? It's silly, and it's fun, and in this case it's all that really matters. The entire album is catchy and enjoyable, with slick synths, crisp production and falsetto hooks. Highlights include The Malibu Highlife, Bedroom Costume and Beard Lust, the latter of which is arguably the album's best song, and funniest too.
