10 Astounding Albums By Landfill Indie Bands Of The '00s

6. Black Kids - Partie Traumatic

Black Kids had an interesting ride, highly blogged and buzzworthy, and not just because of their name, until they received some unfortunate backlash following the release of their debut. They dropped a neat little EP, Wizards of Ahhhhs, and some demos, which garnered a fair amount of positive press due to their "lo-fi charm" (ugh), as well as some arguably unreachable levels of hype. Next up was their full length, Partie Traumatic, which was so poorly received by the tastemakers over at Pitchfork that they didn't even review the album, they just gave it a 3.3 and attached a captioned image of a dog apologising. Really though, the album wasn't bad at all, and most of the reviews agreed. Shame the band hasn't done much since. The majority of the songs were the same as the ones from their previously released EP and demos and aside from some extra production polish, they were just as good and much the same. The new tracks stood up equally well and altogether it made for a great pop album with a nice 80s influence. The standout track still is and always will be I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You. It's deliriously catchy, a little poignant, and its gender-bending lyrics provide the listener with something extra to think about.
