10 Astounding Albums By Landfill Indie Bands Of The '00s

5. The Big Pink - A Brief History Of Love

Their band name sounds like some sort of surreal noir tale but their music is anything but. Every song is a love song, hence the title, and the band's affectation for the 1990s is evident through the albums The Verve-esque vocals and heavy shoegaze influence. It's a huge album in that regard, with slick production and a large, all-encompassing sound composed of massive, droning guitars and relaxed drumming. Their pop-oriented sound helps separate them from other shoegaze bands from the time period, who may have focused more on their sonics than song structure. This album has more of a pop and rock basis and it all comes together on the album's most popular single; Dominos. The hook is effortlessly simple and yet still incredibly catchy, with a sound that is so 90s alt-rock it could almost make you nostalgic. The title track's feature of a female vocalist and cavernous production make for a wonderful ballad.
