10 Astounding Albums By Landfill Indie Bands Of The '00s

3. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

Bloc Party may not have initially seemed like a landfill indie band, at least due to the positive attention they first garnered with Silent Alarm. Reviews were glowing, and rightfully so, as the album was one of the more notable records to come out of the post-punk revival. Reviews for their following albums garnered a more mixed reception as the band started to experiment more with electronics. Silent Alarm moves along like a more straight forward rock album. The band's playing is tight and skilful, and the songs on this album are punchy, hooky, and well-written, with passionate vocals courtesy of lyricist Kele Okereke. The lyrics were often relatable, telling stories of youthful love which were thematically typical but well delivered. These tracks often also had a reasonably political edge to them, further giving the band credibility. Highlights include the groovy bass on lead single, Positive Tension, the poignant lyricism of This Modern Love and the simultaneously atmospheric guitar work and energetic drums on album opener, Like Eating Glass.
