10 Awesome Albums Made Entirely Of Outtakes
2. Shenanigans - Green Day
Before American Idiot was even an idea in Billie Joe Armstrong's mind, Green Day were in serious trouble. The band's creative shift with Warning was met with a lukewarm reception and their touring schedule often found them being brushed to the side in favor of new bands like Blink-182. At this point, Shenanigans sounds like it should be just a fast and easy album for the fans to soak up right?
Wrong. Even though most of the songs on the album are taken from B-sides from the band's previous singles, that doesn't diminish from the bratty power of these tunes. The opening song "Suffocate" is one of the hookiest tracks that few Green Day fans have heard while other tracks like "Rotting" and "On the Wagon" show a more laid back version of these pop punk giants. The band also found the time to include covers of some of their favorite rock acts from the Kinks to the Ramones.
The album proved to be so hooky that even the song "Ha Ha You're Dead" ended up being released as a single, which has since become a fan favorite. Coming just before the band's second artistic breakthrough, Shenanigans remains one of the unsung heroes in Green Day's legendary career.
