10 Awesome Albums Made Entirely Of Outtakes
3. Anthology - The Beatles
After Paul McCartney inducted his former bandmate John Lennon into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Yoko Ono had an idea. With decades passed since the Beatles' split, Ono assembled the remaining three band members together and presented them with unfinished material Lennon was making before he died.
Intrigued by the opportunity, the band created their Anthology series, which featured finished versions of John's songs along with a comprehensive collection of the band's career. The entire 6 disc set is full of studio outtakes and forgotten gems that span the band's entire recording process, from subtle audio snippets to different takes of some of your favorite songs. Along with the new material, highlights include some discarded B-sides like "That Means a Lot" as well as run-throughs of "A Day In the Life" and a beautiful acoustic version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
The project was so lucrative it eventually blossomed into a mini series on television. The entire set of songs makes you feel like you are with the Fab Four as they take a look back through their humble roots as a Liverpool bar band to some of the most eclectic songcrafters in rock history. With countless hours of material to sift through, this set makes you a fly on the wall for some of the greatest recordings pop music has ever known.
