10 Awesome Albums Made Entirely Of Outtakes
1. The Masterplan - Oasis
When it comes to song releases, Oasis seem to have some of the greatest B-sides in the business. Whether it ended up on an album, a stand-alone single, or a B-side, a song was a song in the mind of Noel Gallagher. After coming off a maligned album with Be Here Now, the band seemed to go dark for a while, with this compilation album used to tide fans over.
What could have easily just been an overlooked compilation became one of the best Oasis albums that the band never technically made. The entire record is full of essential rock and roll from the opener "Acquiesce" to their fantastic cover of the Beatles' "I Am The Walrus." On the other hand, this album also gives us a glimpse into Oasis with Noel as the frontman, with most of the acoustic cuts being sung by him, including "Talk Tonight" and the stunning "Going Nowhere."
The album also shows different sonic directions like the instrumental "Swamp Song" which was sampled on What's the Story Morning Glory as well as the punk snideness of "Headshrinker." Even though albums like Definitely Maybe are rightfully considered classics to this day, the Masterplan may be the greatest unsung masterpiece of the 90's.
