Imagine planning on a regular night out at the movies and winding up going home to introduce your parents to Bruce Springsteen. Seems like an unlikely story, right? But that's exactly what happened to a fan one night in 1981. Bruce relayed the story to Musician interviewer David Marsh. He was in St. Louis, Missouri for a gig and decided to go out driving and decided to go to the cinema by himself. When there, he met a guy who asked him if he wanted to sit with him and his girlfriend. Being a man of the people, Springsteen agreed.

The film they happened to be watching was Woody Allen's Stardust Memories, where Allen plays a director who is dismayed at the expectations of his fans. After the film Bruce and his two new friends talked about it and he assured them that he doesn't feel the same way about his fans. After that conversation, the guy asked Bruce if he'd be up for meeting his mother and father.

Now, for a lot of internationally famous rock stars, this would set alarm bells ringing. After all, you could end up meeting the guys parents or you could end up being held hostage in the middle of nowhere. But Bruce spoke positively of the experience, saying how he spoke to the man, his girlfriend and his family for two hours, ate their food and then got a ride back to his hotel. Speaking about the experience, Bruce said:

I felt so good that night. Because here are these strange people I didn't know, they take you in their house, treat you fantastic, and this kid was real nice. They were real nice. That's something that can happen to me that can't happen to most people. And when it does happen it's fantastic.
Odds are that the lucky fan was please, too.
