7. A History Of Bad Men
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oolwsWexSzQ Off of their 2006 album that marked their first partnership with Jared Warren and Coady Willis of Big Business, A History of Bad Men marks one of their catchiest offerings to date. Beginning with a subtle back and forth between drummers Crover and Willis with an easy and laid-back groove that sets up the entire song. Once the main riff kicks in however you know that they mean business. Heavy, sludgy, and catchy all at once, the verse is the bread and butter of the song. The vocal line is one of the best you'll find, and you have no soul if you don't instantly want to start singing along. The quirky lyrics go well with the flow of the song, making it impossible to not move to it. While it doesn't really have a chorus by conventional definitions, it kicks into a wobbly-sounding bridge with an odd four-part vocal harmony that serves as a great bridge complete with the drums building tension underneath. This is one of those should-be classics that get overshadowed by songs that "make more sense" to the radio rock crowd, but it rocks as much if not more than anything on the radio today. Missing out on this is akin to missing your son's Bar Mitzvah: you'll be able live with yourself, but just barely.
