8. Black Bock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxFFggnHPM4 Black Bock, from their 1996 release Stag, stands out from the others mentioned in this countdown. Bouncy and upbeat is the path they take with this, a true contrast to the dark and dissonant style they're usually know for. Add in back up whistles and lacking anything in the way of distortion, this particular song will throw some off at first but the musical hooks and smooth verses will make it hard to turn it off. To contrast the saccharine sweet music and vocals are the slightly dark lyrics, seemingly dealing with a disturbed individual's view on killing a goat to try to find something to add meaning to his life. Even as light as it is, it always keeps the crowds moving, even moshing during the brutal refrain of "la la la la" during the bridge. Don't let airiness turn you off or you'll be sorely disappointed; the juxtaposition of the light and dark themes are one of the things that make this little ditty worth giving a try. Black Bock may get you weird looks as you listen to it, but it is one of those gems that will keep you thoroughly engaged.
