3. Going Blind
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmX_7B8c-ww The fourth track from their album Houdini, Going Blind is their take on a little known KISS song adding thicker riffs than Ace and company could have ever dreamed and possibly some of the strangest lyrics in rock. Adding power that the KISS version lacked, its a prodding re-imagining of 70s rock through the filter of Black Flag. This song is definitely one of the rare occasions where a cover can equal the original, and even surpass it. The verse and chorus sections transition seamlessly into each other differentiated only the subtle change in guitar parts. The lyrics, regardless of how strange they may sound, are incredibly catchy and a great peek at the weirdness that KISS continued with Christine Sixteen. Adding brawn to a pop-rock track like the original helped take this from a good song to one of the most powerful on the Houdini album. A great song from a great band by another great band, Going Blind stands out as a catchy song built on heavy guitars that just about anyone can enjoy.
