10 Awesome Rock Bands With One Terrible Album
6. One Hot Minute - The Red Hot Chili Peppers (1995)
Some folks might not be surprised at the inclusion of this album. Then again, others might consider some very early Chili Peppers records, more worthy of ridicule. It's true the group's first few albums were by no means perfect... But they exemplified the raw and energised talent of the band. Those early records suffered from poor production, and too many line up changes, but they captured the impassioned charm of a group finding their sound.
One Hot Minute, on the other hand, was an all time low. After guitarist John Frusciante departed, Anthony Keidis resumed his drug habits, and Flea became despondent. Although replacement guitarist, Dave Navarro, is talented musician, his sound didn't jive with the group.
The album represented the personal struggle each member was going through at the time. Many songs were melancholic and jarring. The more upbeat numbers were even worse. The combination of Navarro's heavy grunge sound, with Flea's funked out bass, just made everything sound like Faith No Moor trying to mimic Soundgarden - but not in a good way.
