10 Awesome Rock Bands With Terrible Debut Albums

1. Metal Magic - Pantera

If you're looking for some of the heaviest riffs that the metal world has ever heard, it's a pretty safe bet to go with Pantera. Ever since the '90s, records like Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven still have some of the meatiest grooves that metal has to offer, along with the shrieks from Phil Anselmo that are enough to scare away any concerned parents. As much as we like to imagine that this band was born with Cowboys From Hell, you have to admit that it's a lie that metalheads tell themselves so they can sleep at night.

Long before Anselmo was even in the band, Pantera did have a previous life in the world of glam rock, back when Vinnie and Dime were still barely out of school. Though these kids were definitely ready for the prime time from a raw musical standpoint, the lyrics and especially the style is like night and day compared to what you're used to hearing them do.

Just listening to the sounds of something like Ride My Rocket will tell you everything you need to know, with riffs that sound like the reason why parody bands like Steel Panther exist today. This is still serviceable for what it is, but if you played this to the true metalheads right after something like Walk, their heads might explode.
