10 Awesome Rock Bands With Terrible Debut Albums
8. Adrenaline - Deftones
Anyone who was ever a part of the nu metal scene around the turn of the century owes Deftones a debt of gratitude for not embarrassing themselves. While not every album has been classics from cover to cover, these guys never sacrificed their heaviness when delving into different territory, with their later output showing us sounds that we didn't even know metal was capable of. Which is a welcome change of pace from the derivative sounds that they were mining in the early days.
Right before growing up with Around the Fur, Adrenaline is one of the most sophomoric records that Deftones would ever release, sounding a lot more like an open mic night for the band rather than a fully fleshed out album experience. Even with some of the more problematic moments on records like Saturday Night Wrist, songs like Bored sound like they have the potential to be good Deftones songs but are just missing that final sonic finish.
Though many albums on this list show the band at their most slipshot, the real problem on this record comes down to the production, with the guitars in particular sounding either too harsh for their own good or too muddled in the mix. With a little polish, this has the makings of a proper introduction to Deftones...we just got stuck with listening to the absolute worst versions of these songs.
