10 Awesome Rock Bands With Terrible Debut Albums

No one in their right mind is going to tell you that Alice Cooper is the master subtlety or anything. For the past 50 years, the man has basically made his calling card be the most shocking things one man can do onstage, from having different manners of killing himself to famously killing a chicken onstage all the way back in the '60s. Before the horrific makeup was on his face though, this was just a weird art rock band operating out of California.

When Alice originally got signed, they were originally scouted by rock guitarist and resident weirdo Frank Zappa, and had songs that even left Zappa with his mouth on the floor. Compared to what the band would get up to in the next few years with albums like Killer and School's Out, Pretties For You is one of the most oddball albums ever made. This isn't like the fun Frank Zappa weird though...this is the kind of strange music that makes you genuinely worried about the kind of people that are behind the instruments.

Adding insult to injury, some of these songs are mixed like garbage, with some of them being taken from live cuts that sound like the microphones were set up across the street. Even with Alice's reputation as the king of shock rockers, this is the kind of music that should be reserved for Captain Beefheart B-sides instead of the guy who would eventually write I'm Eighteen.
