10 Awesome Supergroups We Never Got To See

2. Guns and Black Labels

If you were anywhere near the Guns N Roses world in the early '90s, you probably have the scars to show for it. In the aftermath of the Use Your Illusion double album, the next few years were a hot mess for these rockers from the Sunset Strip, leading to almost everyone leaving the band except for Axl Rose. As they were getting everything together though, there was almost another guitar legend coming down the pipeline.

Pulling every single favor that they knew, one of the leads that Axl had was with Zakk Wylde, who was just coming off of playing in Ozzy Osbourne's band and his own solo stint with Pride and Glory. Then again, being the prospective new guitarist in GNR means waiting...a lot of waiting. When it came time for Wylde to actually make a decision between Ozzy and Guns, Axl's lack of a straight answer led to him just striking out on his own with Black Label Society.

As much respect as Wylde still has for the guys though, he still thinks that it couldn't have worked at the time, given that most of the rehearsals were spent sitting around thinking of ideas rather than actually getting work done. If their friendship is still secure though, who knows? Maybe having Zakk Wylde jumping onstage with Guns in the next few years is not as much of a fantasy as we think.
