10 AWFUL Albums By Legendary Bands

7. U2 - No Line On The Horizon (2009)

You know who really enjoys Bono's singing? Bono.

In the song Magnificent, Bono sings: I was born to sing for you/I didn't have a choice but to lift you up. If anything, this summarises the album's vanity perfectly and is a great set up into the self-indulgent tunes that lay ahead.

Unfortunately, magnificent is not a word used to describe the rest of the album as it just feels like the legendary rockers were going through the motions of what they've done time and time again over the last 30 years. Of course, there's The Edge's iconic guitar sound undulating throughout the album accompanied by Bono's signature vocals, but the album falls flat of anything original or noteworthy. The fact that U2 didn't feature any of the songs from this album on their last tour say a lot.

Worst Song: Get On Your Boots

Although Get On Your Boots is an attempt at something different, their attempt at sounding sexy is about as erotic as giving your partner a back massage with a rubber chicken.

Worst lyrics: Free me from a dark dream/Candy floss, ice cream/All the kids are screaming/But the ghosts aren't real

Saving grace: Bono's soaring vocals in White As Snow

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
