10 Bad Closing Songs On Great Rock Music Albums

5. Les Boys - Making Movies (Dire Straits)

Whilst it's usually good to have people talking about your song, it's probably less appealing for them to be debating whether or not it's homophobic.

In 1980, British group Dire Straits released the album Making Movies. It was a big success, charting well across Europe and spawning two memorable singles in the form of Tunnel of Love and Romeo and Juliet.

The band had just seven songs to choose from when it came time to select a finale song, and they ended up plucking the worst possible choice from this shallow pool.

Les Boys is Mark Knopfler's musings on the gay scene in Germany. There are descriptions of men wearing leather straps, performing cabaret, and doing all sorts of other things that do not paint the community in the best light.

There is still discussion about this song today. Is it hateful? Or is it just a canny observation of what the world was like at the time?

Considering that Knopfler himself is straight - and he famously used the f-slur in the song Money for Nothing - there's some significant evidence to support the former claim.

Either way, it's just a bad song.
