10 Bad Opening Songs On Great Rock Music Albums

4. Women - Hysteria (Def Leppard)

Hysteria is the perfect name for Def Leppard's fourth studio album, because people went absolutely nuts for it. It topped the charts in the UK and across the pond in the US, where it has sold over 12 million copies to date.

The album is stacked with a capital S. Rocket, Animal, Love Bites, Armageddon It, Gods of War, Pour Some Sugar On Me, these are just some of the gigantic tunes that came from Hysteria.

Its opening number, Women, wasn't quite as good.

Starting off strong with some distant guitars and pounding drum beats, the song gets super cringey super quickly. Singer Joe Elliott talks about how God made man and then how he gave them a gift by supplying the world with women. As well as being super outdated, this is also just a bit rubbish.

There's no wit or nuance; the chorus literally goes "Women, women, lots of pretty women". There are eighth graders with better writing ability than that.

When you consider how perfect Pour Some Sugar On Me would be as an album opener (especially the single mix), it's a crime that this embarrassing mess was given top billing.
