10 Bad Songs From Great Bands
2. Queen - Calling All Girls (Hot Space, 1982)
Remember this Queen single from 1982? Nope, neither do I. It's for the best. Written by drummer Roger Taylor the track never received a full UK release and failed to captivate audiences overseas peaking at a lowly number 60 in the US charts. Additionally, the band ceased to play the single outside of Europe, perhaps indicating that they were well-aware of its mediocrity.
Calling All Girls wears the worst of Hot Spaces dance-pop influences on its sleeve existing as a dizzyingly dull slog of a track. I guess there's nothing exactly too offensive about the single, but it exists as an embodiment of possibly the lowest point in Queen's decade-spanning career. It's hard to believe that this atrocity was featured on the same record as the excellent 'Under Pressure'.
