10 Bad Songs From Great Bands
1. The Cure - Watching Me Fall (Blood Flowers, 2000)
Watching Me Fall was first introduced to fans when a drunken Robert Smith took the stage at Bizarre Festival in 1998 and to his bandmates horror, accidentally sang its lyrics over Disintegration closer Untitled. Admittedly, Watching Me Fall isn't that awful, but its return to the gloomy apathetic sounds of classic records Pornography and Disintegration sadly reveal a band far-removed from their prime.
Clocking in at eleven minutes, the track whirls listeners to sleep, monotonously plodding along and suffering from a severe lack of distinctive hooks. Yes, Disintegration may be firmly loaded with drawn-out tracks, but they are supported by an assortment of evocative melodies and poignant lyrics, something which Watching Me Fall is evidently in short supply of.
