10 Band Members Who ABSOLUTELY HATE Each Other
8. Dennis DeYoung/Tommy Shaw - Styx
Styx have had one of the most inconsistent receptions of all of the great arena rock bands of the '70s. Even though there have been plenty of critics willing to drag them through the mud, the genuine musicianship on display and amazing vocal performances from Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw put them one notch above the more pedestrian rock acts of their time. While many saw the band as a democracy, there are some members who would have preferred the term dictatorship.
Going through their golden period in the late '70s, DeYoung was the real captain of the group, writing a bulk of the hits and being the creative overseer of the group's music. On the other hand, Shaw was getting more and more concerned that the band was straying away from the world of hard rock with songs like Babe and First Time, which he thought were far too soft to be considered rock.
By the time they reached the conceptual mess Kilroy Was Here, DeYoung's creative vision had fully betrayed him, leading to Shaw leaving the group to form Damn Yankees. Though there was an attempt at a reunion in the early '90s, the physical ailments DeYoung had on the road led to the rest of the group continuing on without him. As the band continues to sell out stadiums on the festival circuit, their business-like dictator has been MIA ever since his departure.
