10 Bands Destroyed By Just One Album

9. Music From The Elder - KISS

After pummeling the hard rock world for the majority of the 70's, KISS were not equipped for the tide that was shifting beneath their feet. While most fans felt a bit jilted after the band's disco leanings on "I Was Made For Lovin You," there was no need to lose hope for their hard rock heroes to not wow them yet again.

Instead of doing a proper return to form, the group ventured out into more experimental territory with producer Bob Ezrin. The vision the group had was to put out a lofty concept record that would finally show the intellectual side of the band. With no clear direction and the tracks being shuffled around, Music From the Elder is the sound of the kings of shock rock having an identity crisis with itself. The sonic detours were certainly interesting in places, but who really comes into a KISS record expecting to hear oboes?

This was a record that caused many fans to jump ship, with even guitarist Ace Frehley quitting the band shortly after the album sessions were completed. Though the band would roar back to life a few years later with Creatures of the Night, this misguided mess left the kings of 70's rock effectively dead in the water.
