10 Bands That Became One Album Wonders

7. Peter Frampton

The entire concept of the live album seems to be a bit of a lost art nowadays. Even though most of the heavyhitters in their respective genres have unbelievable live shows, there isn't too much that you can do live that you haven't heard performed better on the record. In the '70s though, live albums could make or break your career...just ask Peter Frampton.

Already a guitar superstar thanks to his stint in Humble Pie, Frampton kept slogging away on the rock circuit only to fall flat whenever he tried to make a record. As much as the studio didn't like him, his audiences certainly did, which came out in spades when Frampton Comes Alive found its way onto the charts. Even for the '70s, it was certainly an oddity having one of the biggest rock songs be 13 minutes and include multiple talkbox solos like Do You Feel Like We Do?.

However, Frampton did hit a slump once he realized that there was no place to go after making the audience lose their minds once. Going further into his solo career, a lot of his later period output seemed to be chasing the magic that brought him his first big smash. Though the right people still remember this kind of performance, the rest of us would much rather just keep the live tapes if we could.
