10 Bands That Became One Album Wonders
6. Minor Threat
The entire hardcore scene burned out long before it really had a chance to make any impact. Though we did have some stellar acts like the Bad Brains and Fugazi find their way to legendary status, most of the hardcore bands around that time were a lot like their music: fast, aggressive, and fading out before people were ready for it to. While we did get some heavyhitters like the Dead Kennedys out of the deal, Minor Threat really needed to stick around longer than they did.
Coming off the strength of two amazing EPs, Ian MacKaye's ramshackle group of punks from Washington D.C. made one of the greatest punk outings ever in Out of Step, which became a rallying cry for anyone who felt oppressed. Whether it be the new kids feeling stepped on by society or the old guard looking for something aggressive to jam out to, every single person felt like that one sheep on the cover, wanting to break free from the pack.
When you break free though, there's no road map as to where to go next, eventually culminating in Minor Threat folding after another EP before MacKaye formed Fugazi just a few years later. As much as they joke about looking back and laughing on this record, most other punks would be proud to have something like this to their name.
