10 Bands That Broke Up After Their Debut Album

6. Pinkly Smooth

Pinkly Smooth was the side project of Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan and Synyster Gates of the critically acclaimed Avenged Sevenfold. The band also featured former Avenged Sevenfold bassist Justin Meacham on keyboard duties. This side project was created in the early days of Avenged Sevenfold, with its inception beginning in 2001. The project was shelved permenantly after the death of Sullivan in December of 2009.

Pinkly Smooth's sole release was an album titled 'Unfortunate Snort', containing 6 songs regarded by listeners and critics as Avant-Garde Metal. The album did not gain much traction commercially, with the band supporting the release for a year until the project dissolved in 2002. Whilst the project had never been fully revived by Gates or Sullivan, many Pinkly Smooth-inspired songs made their way onto Avenged Sevenfold releases; most notably 'A Little Piece of Heaven' and 'Fiction'. Gates has expressed interest in releasing a re-master of 'Unfortunate Snort', but has been unable to secure the original masters of the album.

Whilst the band's music and image was vastly different from that of Avenged Sevenfold at the time, the members of Pinkly Smooth also chose to adopt different monikers, with the exception of Gates, who retained his Sevenfold nickname. One of the band's most notable differences from Sevenfold was that Sullivan chose to sing for this project, as opposed to playing the drums as he had done in all of his previous musical ventures. His unique voice and song writing would eventually find its way onto many of Sevenfold's releases, often regarded as fan favourites among their audience.
