Semisonic basically serve as the posterchildren for everything that constitutes a one hit wonder. Along with having a name that implied they wouldn't be around for very long, their one hit with Closing Time has endured as one of the few songs that will drive everyone to tears at the end of the night at the bar. Once the house lights go up though, this power pop trio has a lot more going on through beer-soaked glasses.

Along with their one big hit, Dan Wilson always had a knack for writing the best kind of pop rock, settling into a groove that felt just right to please both fans of pop punk and the regular radio rock crowd. Across tracks like Singing In My Sleep, you can hear that nervy punk energy shining through, while also gravitating towards the sticky as hell melody.

Even their followup album All About Chemistry is fantastic as well, tackling sex in a way that could put the likes of Bob Seger's Night Moves to shame. While the original lineup eventually dissolved after this record, Wilson has kept fairly busy as a songwriter, collaborating with everyone from Rivers Cuomo to Adele in the interim years. For as much as they might have been partially heard, Semisonic is the one '90s act that really warrants the full sonic treatment at this point.
