10 Bands That Deserve To Be More Than One Hit Wonders
9. Failure
As the late '90s turned a corner, it wasn't really expected for a band to have a gimmick anymore. For as much as the '80s killed any of the flashy playing from the airwaves, it was as good a time as any to be a nobody playing guitar and become a hit maker. However, that's not to discount the gimmicky enthusiasts like Failure.
Over just three records, Failure managed to be on the cusp of what became space rock in the next few decades, having the same kind of futuristic sounding synth work that the new wave of the '80s only hinted at. It even started to pay off towards the tail end of the decade, giving them one surefire hit with Stuck On You. Being ahead of the game like they always are, Failure made the sensible choice of any rock band in their position and...broke up.
That alone stings that much more when you realize that they were really on the cusp of something much greater with Fantastic Planet, showing them moving into almost operatic territory while still keeping their attention on songwriting rather than instrumental fluff. As much as Failure's ascent to the top might be what their band name implies, there was still hope for them to reach even greater heights if not for the poor timing.
