10 Bands That Deserve To Be More Than One Hit Wonders
3. Mountain
Throughout most of the '60s, the rock scene wasn't really lacking in any type of blues rock. From the British Invasion coming down the pipeline to the new rough and tumble acts like ZZ Top, you were just as likely to run across any generic blues act in whichever rock club you happened to walk into at the time. Though Mountain seems to fit comfortably in that company, they had an ace up their sleeve with one of the greatest guitarists at the time.
Aside from his massive physique, Leslie West had one of the grittiest tones a six stringer could ask for, which came out in full force with the release of the single Mississippi Queen. Becoming a fan favorite for most of the rock world, the crux of Mountain's work never seems to be brought up all that often, instead reserving this song for classic rock compilation CDs.
Are we going to forget though that these guys had a show opening at Woodstock, which they absolutely annihilated once they finally made it there? Or the fact that the sound of this band has been making its way into everyone from Black Sabbath to Led Zeppelin in its time? The bones of a classic act is certainly there, so it's time to actually give Mountain their just due as one of the true icons of hard rock.
