10 Bands That Destroyed Their Careers
6. Weezer
For a little while, it looked like Weezer was going to be the band to pull us out of the post grunge doldrums. With nothing really to latch onto after Kurt Cobain took his own life, the care free spirit of The Blue Album lifted all of our collective spirits. Though the lackluster reception of Pinkerton caused the band to go on hiatus, something strange started to happen once they rose back up to the surface.
Seeing how Pinkerton was all about Rivers Cuomo's outspoken feelings about being a rockstar, the savage reaction to the record seemed to shake his confidence as a songwriter in the coming years. Though some cuts off of the Red Album and Hurley are still among Weezer's best, the complete misfire of something like Raditude made them look like they were ready to trade in their credibility for chart positions.
While Everything Will Be Alright In the End signaled the start of some brighter days ahead, the real nail in the coffin came when they decided to feed off of nostalgia on Pacific Daydream. Taking the care free summer vibes they were always best at, Weezer has gone back to releasing one album every year, each one having less identity and existing more to cash a paycheck than everything else. The days of Buddy Holly are gone...so you might want to look forward to these guys trying to relive their glory days if you're still on the hype train.
