10 Bands That Destroyed Their Careers
5. Oasis
Sometimes you can just chalk up a band flameout to just losing the momentum. No matter how many times they try to release the next massive sounding record, absolutely no artist can keep the fire burning until the end of time. And in terms of trainwrecks...you don't have a better case for it than what happened to Oasis around the late '90s.
Coming off of the mammoth sales of Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory, the Gallaghers were now the gods of the music industry who could make anything chart on star power alone. On Be Here Now though, things hit a brick wall when they tried to outdo themselves again, leading to a meandering mess of songs that never seemed to get out of first gear from the moment they start playing.
While you can say they recovered from it in the '00s, their time as superstars was done after this one record. Though songs from Dig Out Your Soul and Don't Believe the Truth still hold up as decent, there's something about them that will never again reach the heights of a Wonderwall or Don't Look Back In Anger. As heartbroken as fans were about the ending of Oasis in 2009, it feels like Noel just ended it as a mercy killing at this point.
