10 Bands That Fell Apart After One Album

8. Cracked Rearview - Hootie and the Blowfish

Not every band on this list has to necessarily break up after their record comes out. Some of these acts might have a stellar first impression to leave us with, only to then try to spend the rest of their career trying (and failing) to recapture the same kind of energy that they hooked us with in the first place. The real question here is...what was the kind of thing that got us hooked on Hootie and the Blowfish so hard in the late '90s?

That's not to say that they don't have talent though. Darius Rucker is still a great singer and performer, and the rest of the band can definitely show off when they want to. The main thing behind Cracked Rearview though is the single potential, and the entire record is stockpiled with them, from the somber sounds of Let Her Cry to the loveable corniness behind a song like Only Wanna Be With You. There's nothing wrong with having simple songs about life, but if you're looking to go further, you're going to need to do more than that.

After their sophomore slump Fairweather Johnson crashed and burned, it felt like the public completely forgot about what Hootie had to offer, with the rest of the band soldiering on for a few more albums until Rucker traded in his rock and roll swagger for cowboy boots when he transitioned into the world of country. Hootie may have felt like the band for everybody back in the day, but somewhere in the shuffle, they crossed the line between being the band for everyone and being the band for no one.
