10 Bands That Fell Apart After One Album
7. Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
Holding any supergroup together for more than 5 minutes seems nearly impossible for any manager to keep together. For as much as a band like the Traveling Wilburys might want to keep going, you would have to make sure you keep up with the schedules of Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and a goddamn Beatle to keep things in check. It's never an easy thing to bring together, so we had better be happy that we got to hear Them Crooked Vultures when we did.
During some downtime in between fronting Queens of the Stone Age, Joshua Homme got a proposition from Dave Grohl to see if he wanted to be involved in a project with him and John Paul Jones. Given that Jones was already a veteran of the session scene and the fact that Dave Grohl wants to fulfill his quota of playing with everyone in the rock scene, it was almost too easy for them to make a record together, going for a sound that felt like an aggro update of what a band from the '70s would have sounded like on songs like Scumbag Blues or No One Loves Me and Neither Do I.
With the amount of stuff on everybody's plate though, it was never going to be a mainline project by any stretch, with Dave eventually going to the hospital for chest pains because he was drinking coffee too much to sustain himself. Them Crooked Vultures may find a way to come together some time down the road...just make sure that the guys are in the best health to do it though.
