10 Bands That Fell Apart After One Album

6. The La's - The La's

There's a good chance that half of the Britpop movement wouldn't have existed without the help of Lee Mavers. With a fantastic ear for melody and his signature English snarl in every one of his songs, Lee gave the La's a great deal of character that made him an inspiration for bands like Oasis and especially Noel Gallagher further down the road. Which is strange considering that it's a miracle that any album by the band was even released.

Before the band even had an album out, Mavers was already hitting a wall in terms of perfectionism, looking to capture just the right magical take that was never going to come. As the label got more and more pushy, the La's eventually scraped together their debut from the songs they did have, only for Lee to start bad mouthing it because it wasn't nearly up to the standards that he was capable of. It's just a shame that we never got to see what those quality songs in question would sound like.

After touring for months upon months on the same songs with no change, John Power pushed Lee into including new songs, only for the band to end in a massive row onstage and Power taking his songs with him to the band Cast. Lee Mavers may have fallen off the face of the Earth since then, but whether or not he puts out any music, here's hoping that he's at least happy with his place in Britpop history.
