10 Bands That Fell Out Over One Song

9. Wrapped Around Your Finger - The Police

After The Police got to Synchronicity, the creative tensions were already running high. Sting was already blossoming into a phenomenal songwriter inn his own right, and it was harder to get any more input from the other members of the band on songs like Every Breath You Take. Everyone does need to know how the song goes though, and Stewart Copeland had an eternal headache trying to dissect Wrapped Around Your Finger.

On the record, this is one of the more sinister songs that Sting would ever write, being about someone who wants to dominate their partner psychologically. When the band were laying down the basic track of the song though, Copeland did not take to the downtempo rhythm that the song is supposed to be, saying that it got to be like pulling teeth trying to get the right feel for the song.

Once they got out on the road though, Stewart said that he gradually learned how to keep the whole thing rolling, inventing new ways to play the song so that it would flow a lot better than it did in the studio. While he is proud of what the song became, Copeland still doesn’t look back on the finished product fondly. Now that he knows the intricacies of the song, he said he would love the chance to rerecord the song how it was supposed to be.
