10 Bands That Fell Out Over One Song

8. All of Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins

No band is safe from a few micromanagers in the studio. Even if you think that you have what it takes to get the job done, there are always going to be producers, labels, and other middlemen saying that you can improve and want to discount what you did as crap. It’s a different story when those middlemen are in the band though.

While Siamese Dream has all the makings of a great Smashing Pumpkins album, Billy Corgan went a bit too far to achieve everything he wanted. While the whole band took shape in the studio to lay down songs like Disarm and Today, Corgan actually came in behind the scenes to tighten up a few performances, including wiping Darcy Wretsky and James Iha’s parts and playing them how he thought they should go. Despite being one of the biggest back stabbings of the ‘90s, the results speak for themselves, with Billy’s parts moving in and out of each other in a much more fluid way than what we would have heard live.

This was the start of the end for the core Pumpkins though, with Iha and Wretsky getting more and more agitated until they finally left the Pumpkins for good, leaving Corgan as the sole member of the Pumpkins who has been a part of every single lineup. Anyone can get a little bit OCD when under pressure, but that doesn’t give you an excuse to replace everything.
