10 Bands That Fell Out Over One Song

7. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen

Once Queen took off, nothing stood in the way of Freddie Mercury having a good time. Even though he had the audience in the palm of his hand every time Queen lit up the stage, he was as much of a party animal off the stage, with the backstage parties getting more and more out of hand when sex and drugs reared their head. You can be playing a dangerous game with that much drugs, and Brian May took exception to one song that Mercury made about his exploits.

As much as Don’t Stop Me Now is a Queen classic, Freddie’s original vision for the song was to make it a celebration of the hard partying times that he was having behind the scenes. Though the lyrics ended up being about any kind of good time you can find yourself in, May wasn’t that much of a fan of Freddie glorifying this behavior, thinking that his friend was going down a dangerous path and would find himself in bad shape if he did eventually take it that one step too far.

While Mercury did clean up a little bit towards the end of his life, Don’t Stop Me Now still stands as one of the best pop hits they had, being more of an ode to innocent fun than wallowing in sadness. Now that Mercury is no longer with us, this is a song for us to remember the good times.
