10 Bands That Just Need To Stop

6. In Flames

Initially being one of the embodiments of Gothenborg's metal scene, blending death metal brutality with punk rock melody, In Flames began developing a more alternative metal-tinged sound from 2002's Reroute to Remain.

While the move split fans, the band gained greater notoriety thanks to this cleaner, more accessible sound. They continued this progression into the follow-up Soundtrack to Your Escape and then again into what many consider their most iconic album of the new sound, Come Clarity. From here, things are best described as a "mixed bag".

A Sense of Purpose lacked the catchiness from previous efforts, Sounds of a Playground Fading teased a new stadium rock sound, but then Anders Fridén sounded bored throughout Siren Charms and Battles was just utter bum, sounding like a compilation of every terrible nu metal band ever. Even Crazytown. And no one should sound like Crazytown.

Fans and critics of both eras don't recognise the outfit anymore, with longtime members Jesper Strömblad, Peter Iwers and Daniel Svensson all leaving over the past few years, possibly contributing to the breakdown of the band's sound.

No one seems to want to be heavy anymore, Fridén himself recently guested on a dance punk album.
