10 Bands That Just Need To Stop
2. Fall Out Boy
In October 2009, Fall Out Boy played their last show before entering an indefinite hiatus. Going through issues ranging from substance to marital, and generally growing tired of the toxic 'emo' label, the lads mutually decided to step back, re-evaluate themselves and the outfit.
We took this break for granted.
Pre-hiatus FOB were the undeniable kings of fun, relatable pop punk from the debut Take This to Your Grave, even to Folie à Deux, that cast a shadow over the likes of Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, and All-American Rejects. Post-hiatus FOB on the other hand has been a cacophony of lacklustre electro-pop rock that would make young Pete Wentz's fringe scowl in disgust.
While bands do need to 'grow up' (lord knows many of their contemporaries have), FOB have done so with all the grace and style of someone doing a cartwheel down a staircase. While comeback album Save Rock and Roll did retain some edge in the new pop rock direction (á la P!atD), AB/AP was paper-thin and new album M A N I A is so bad, not even the name can keep itself together.
Seriously; Joe, Andy, give Scott Ian a call about a new The Damned Things record.
