10 Bands That Made The Same Song Twice
7. Marigold - Dave Grohl
Throughout Dave Grohl's entire career, Marigold has had a bit of an odd shelf life. Originally appearing as a gem on the throwaway project Late!, the hook was so good that it became the one and only Nirvana song not sung by Kurt Cobain. The one we're talking about today though is what happened when Dave got some more road miles on his soul.
When the Foo Fighters first started to become a thing, Marigold was the only song Grohl song that most fans were familiar with, often requesting the song at shows and Dave ignoring them every single time. It would be understandable if he never wanted to play the song again, since the memories would always be tied up with his old band from another life. As soon as the Foos started to toy with their sound on In Your Honor though, it was time to dust off that old song that had gotten the ball rolling for Dave all those years ago.
The funny thing about the song though is just how much it has changed without rewriting any of the lyrics. While the original might have been Dave making his first steps into songwriting, the new version off of Skin and Bones is the sound of a lived in musician, as he talks about a friend that wandered off and watching as the clock ticks by. It may have been about Kurt in a previous life, but now it's a time capsule to have far Dave has come.
