10 Bands That Made The Same Song Twice
6. Don't Cry - Guns N Roses
Most fans of classic rock need to know what they're getting into before taking on any of the Use Your Illusion projects. Since Guns N Roses had been known as this rough and tumble band up until this point, this was the kind of ambitious album that no one saw coming, combining their street punk sound with some of the most over the top ballads that anyone had ever heard. And if you thought November Rain was a bit dramatic, you have no idea what happened on Don't Cry.
The version that most of us know and love is already a decent GNR track, with Slash bringing in some edge with his guitar parts and even having Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon guesting on backing vocals. Even with that long runtime though, apparently there was so much more that needed to be said, and we got a little bit more on Use Your Illusion 2.
After going through bloated songs like Estranged, this almost feels like Axl Rose taking his own victory lap at the end of the album, bringing in some new lyrics to the song with virtually the same backing track that was on the original single version of Don't Cry. Now if this was the closer instead of My World, we may have had a better outlook of what Use Your Illusion truly is: the madman Axl losing his mind in the studio.
