10 Bands That Made The Same Song Twice
8. Up in the Sky - Oasis
When the Gallagher Brothers first got the ball rolling with Oasis, there was absolutely nothing stopping their momentum. In the few years they were active in the '90s, there was hardly ever one bad song that was committed to a single or a proper record. Even when they had to put out a handful of B-sides, Noel managed to one up himself when he redid one of Definitely Maybe's greatest tracks.
If you listen to the original version of Up in the Sky, you can really hear the psychedelic side of the band coming out, with loads of distortion sprinkled into the mix and hitting you like a wall of sound every time you hear it. The B-side is a completely different animal, being entirely acoustic and sung by Noel instead of Liam. Though the original had a bit of a confrontational attitude from Liam, Noel's voice makes the lyrics sound a lot more sarcastic, as if he's asking this person how far they think they'll make it in the industry.
Considering the rock version is played fairly straight, it's also a welcome change of pace to hear Noel change up the rhythm of the tune, giving it a little bit of a bounce with a swung rhythm. Since you don't really have a drummer or anything to anchor you down, you can picture this being Noel by himself in a studio, playing the song directly to you. Oasis were already on the verge of something big, but we should have all seen it coming if the no frills version of the song still kicked ass.
