10 Bands That Made The Same Song Twice
5. Morning Bell - Radiohead
Radiohead have always been known to take their time when making some of their best work. The only time a song will come out is when they think that it can't be improved, leading to us waiting a decade before they finally gave us a version of Nude on In Rainbows. When they underwent their electronic makeover though, Morning Bell was one of the few songs that we got to hear twice.
On the Kid A version of the song, you really get to hear the sterile environment of the sessions, where Thom was just bringing bits and pieces of lyrics together and melding them into something coherent. From the sounds of the piano, this version sounds a lot more like a simulation, as if you've been taken into a different headspace and are floating on air. When you get the Amnesiac version, it's almost like you're stepping into a reoccurring nightmare.
That's not to say that this version is bad by any stretch. While Amnesiac gets the bad reputation of being a B-sides record, this version of the song sounds almost like a cry for help from Thom, begging to be released from this environment. Since this is also in a different time signature from the original version, you're back on firmer ground and realizing that something really bad is just on the horizon. Then again, this was Radiohead, and no one was ever coming to these guys for a pick me up, now were they?
